The Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth, including our dedicated orthopaedic ward St Elizabeth’s, continues to have very low rates of infection.
Our nurses work hard to maintain this, always working in conjunction with the Infection Control Team.
The Senior Nurses on the Orthopaedic Ward, in conjunction with the Infection Control Nurse, monitor all Orthopaedic Surgery and survey patients going for major joint surgery. Our patients are screened on admission, particularly those who have been transferred from other hospitals.
The cleanliness of the Ward is imperative and this is monitored and inspected by the infection control Nurse, Housekeeping Supervisors and Matron. Each of our housekeepers is assigned an area of the hospital to maintain continuity of cleaning.
To ensure the hospital's high standards of quality are continuously maintained, rigorous clinical audits are carried out both internally and externally by national regulatory bodies.
The Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth is regulated by the Care Quality Commission in accordance with the Care Standards Act 2000, and inspected regularly against national Minimum Standards (department of health 2002).
In all our audits since 2008, we have had no cases of MRSA bacterium in the hospital (August 2010)
The Care Quality Commission is responsible for monitoring the performance of all NHS and independent healthcare organisations across England and Wales.
