The orthopaedic imaging services are run by a team of specialist musculoskeletal (MSK) radiologists who provide cover every working day. They have access to some of the fastest and most accurate equipment, staffed by expert radiographers.
Images are available for consultants to view instantly in the operating theatres and outpatient clinic rooms through the PACS system.
MRI
The first 3.0 Tesla MRI scanner in a London Private Hospital and a 1.5 T MRI. Both with dedicated MSK coils for high-resolution imaging.
As well as routine imaging MR arthrograms are performed for conditions including the investigation of instabilities. Most appointments are offered within 24 hours of booking.
Opening hours are Mon-Fri 08.00hrs-20.30hrs and Saturday 08.30hrs-13.30hrs
CT Our ultra-fast 64 channel multi-slice CT scanning allows the images to be reconstructed in any plane or as a 3D image. This is particularly useful in the management of complex fractures. The scanner also allows image guided intervention for diagnostic and pain relieving procedures. Appointments are usually offered on the same day.
Opening hours are Mon-Fri 09.00hrs-17.00hrs.
Ultrasound The department has two high resolution Phillips iU22 ultrasound machines equipped with high frequency MSK probes. These are used for the diagnosis of impingements and also to guide therapeutic steroid injections. Ultrasound can also be used to guide Dry needling and Platelet Rich Plasma and Blood injections for the treatment of tendinopathy. Specialist MSK ultrasound lists are run each working day and some Saturday mornings. The lists are run, where possible, to coincide with the orthopaedic outpatient clinics. This allows a 'One Stop' service where, in many cases, patients can have their clinical assessment, imaging and treatment all during the same hospital visit.
Please contact the imaging department on 020 7806 4030 for clinic times.
Digital Plain Film Radiography (Xrays) Plain films are performed on one of two Siemens fully digital units that offer low dose radiography and shorter examination times for patients. Appointments are not usually required for plain film Xrays and can be arranged within 30 minutes of request.
Opening hours are Mon-Fri 08.00hrs-21.00hrs and Saturday 08.30hrs-13.30hrs.
Digital Fluoroscopy Low dose, high resolution fluoroscopy allows real time X-ray imaging. This is used to guide intra-articular diagnostic or therapeutic injections. Intra-articular steroid injections are often combined with 'Hydrodilatation' which has been found to be a useful treatment for frozen shoulders.
Please contact the imaging department on 020 7806 4030 for clinic times.
Contact Information Routine reports are available within 24 hours of the examination or the next working day if carried out over a weekend. Urgent reports are usually available on the day of the investigation.
