Mr Robert Marston MBBS BSc FRCS FRCS (Orth)

Consultant Lower Limb Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon

Mr Marton obtained his medical degree from London University – St Thomas’s Hospital in 1985. He completed fellowships at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital with Johnson & Johnson, with Mr William Muirhead Allwood as the Zimmer Hip Fellow and was awarded the BOA Travelling Fellowship which he completed in USA and Western Australia.

His current NHS post is Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. He holds Honorary Consultant Positions at St Luke’s Hospital for the Clergy and Ravenscourt Park NHS Treatment Centre. His private office is based at The Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth where he is the Lead Consultant in the Hip Unit and Trauma Unit.

Clinical Special Interests
Trauma
Although on a general trauma rota his specific interest and expertise is lower limb trauma excluding pelvic and acetabular trauma. He keeps himself up to date by regularly attending AO instruction courses and others as well as doing a dedicated weekly trauma list at St Mary’s. He runs a twenty-four hour trauma unit for the elderly at The Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth.

Orthopaedics
His orthopaedic subspecialty interests are primary, complex primary and revision hip surgery. He performs knee arthroscopy and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and knee replacement, including Oxford unicompartmental replacement. Within foot and ankle surgery he does ankle arthroscopy and fusion and forefoot surgery for arthritis, hallux valgus (bunions) and forefoot pain (metatarsalgia and neuromata).

Medicolegal
Mr Marston does medical reports for personal injury, permanent health insurance and negligence cases.

Research Interests

  • ConeLock uncemented self locking stems for revision hip replacement and periprosthetic fracture.
  • Evidence based choice of hip prosthesis for patients undergoing primary hip replacement surgery.
