Through orthopaedic surgery, the aim is to restore lost function in any part of the musculo-skeletal system. Common procedures involve knee surgery, shoulder surgery and surgery to treat severe back pain. Where possible, our orthopaedic surgeons use the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques to reduce recovery time. This is especially helpful with shoulder, knee and back surgery, where the area being operated on is particularly complex and delicate. Our orthopaedic surgeons are all leaders in their respective fields and are highly specialised in the areas that they treat. Between them, our surgeons treat elite athletes and professional sportsmen from most fields including football, tennis, rugby, athletics, cricket and ballet among others. The same high level of care our professional sportsmen receive is available to all patients using the orthopaedic and musculoskeletal services at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth. The orthopaedic surgeons treat patients following traumatic events including falls, accidents and sporting injuries. They also see patients with a range of conditions including arthritis, joint pain, weakness and lack of movement or reduced range of movement. Treatments include physiotherapy, intraarticular and intramuscular injections, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery and open surgery including partial, full and revision joint replacement. |
