Dr Joseph Azzopardi MD FRCA FFPMANZCA FFPMRCA
Dr Azzopardi graduated from the University of Malta in 1993. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists of the UK, the Pain Faculty of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia and the Pain Faculty of the Royal College of Anaesthetists of the UK. He commenced training in anaesthesia and pain medicine in Dublin and subsequently undertook higher specialist training in London at The Barts and The London School of Anaesthesia and other associated hospitals. He was a visiting fellow in Regional Anaesthesia in Uppsala University Hospital in Sweden and in 2002 undertook a two year fellowship in Pain Medicine in Sydney and Adelaide. He was appointed to his current post at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals on his return to the UK. Since taking up his post he has been extensively involved with the development of cancer pain services at Guy’s and St.Thomas’. His major interests include interventional pain management, radiofrequency ablation techniques, neuromodulation and the management of pain in cancer survivors. His anaesthesia subspecialty interests are regional anaesthesia and difficult airway management. In addition he is actively involved in post graduate education, medical simulation and is a clinical supervisor for higher specialist training in Pain Medicine.
